Training of employers and employees

The training programmes “Safety Technicians B or C risk category” which are of 35 hours (7 days of training) and 10 hours (2 days of training) respectively, are submitted to the Ministry of Labour – Directorate D9. From the end of the seminar and once the approval decision has been issued by the Ministry, the Training Certificate will be issued within 10 days. Once the Certificate of Training is issued, the same employer will be able to register as a safety technician and at the same time terminate the contract for the assignment of safety technician duties. Until the employer – company has obtained the Certificate of Training, the employer – company will have to delegate the tasks of the Safety Technician either to an external partner or to External Protection and Prevention Services (EXYPP).

According to the current legislation on the safety and health of employees, in all companies, regardless of the sector of economic activity and the number of employees, the employer has the obligation to provide employees with Protection and Prevention Services, i.e. safety engineering services. This certificate is now a prerequisite for every business.

Content of the seminar

The Safety Technician Seminar is for all employers. It is required by the legislation that every employer who employs employees must have a safety and health officer responsible for the safety and health of employees in the workplace / safety technician.
The safety technician is an advisor to the employer and the employees and in general his/her mission is:

  • (a) regularly inspect workplaces from the point of view of occupational health and safety, report to the employer any failure to comply with health and safety measures, propose measures to deal with it and supervise their implementation.
  • (b) to ensure that employees within the undertaking comply with the rules of occupational health and safety and to instruct them in how to prevent occupational hazards arising from their work.

The employer is also obliged to have a written assessment of the risks in his company, which is drawn up by the safety engineer. In the written risk assessment, a systematic examination of all aspects of any work carried out is made and recorded:

What could cause damage and harm.

Whether the sources of risk could be eliminated, or if not.

What prevention and protection measures are or should be implemented.

To determine the qualifications of the safety technician and to calculate his/her working time, companies are classified into three categories A (high risk), B (medium risk), C (low risk).

The safety technician’s working time depends on the number of employees and the risk of the enterprise.

Participation cost 70€ for the Category C programmes and 130€ for the Category B programmes.
