Fiber Optic Cabling Technician

The KEK10 K.D.B.M., a certified KDBM by the National Organization for Qualifications and Vocational Guidance (EOPPEP) and the Ministry of Education, Religion and Sports (certification code: 2100427), implements the professional training program “Fiber Optic Cabling Technician,” which leads to internationally recognized certification.

Its goal is the comprehensive theoretical and practical training of individuals interested in acquiring the necessary skills to work as fiber optic installation, splicing, testing, and maintenance technicians, as well as to prepare for professional competency certification exams from recognized bodies in the industry.

This program is designed for the following broad groups of individuals:

A) For individuals with a technical background who work or wish to work in fields such as telecommunications, networks, technical installations, electrical engineering, automation, etc.

B) For education professionals and organizations (KDBM, IEK, schools) seeking to offer specialized and updated programs in modern technical specialties.

C) For companies active in fiber optic network installations, seeking personnel with certified skills and needing continuous training for their workforce.

The program, with a total duration of 150 hours, aims at the comprehensive theoretical and practical training of individuals interested in acquiring the necessary skills to work as fiber optic installation, splicing, testing, and maintenance technicians, as well as to prepare for professional competency certification exams from recognized bodies in the industry.

The program is 150 hours long, lasts 2 months, and is implemented using the Distance Learning method.

The program is structured into five (5) thematic cycles.

  • Thematic Cycle 1: Foundations of Optical Communications

The Birth of Optical Communications Fiber Optic Terminology Basic Physical Principles and Fiber Optic Technology

  • Thematic Cycle 2: Materials and Infrastructure of Optical Networks

Characteristics and Types of Optical Fibers Fiber Optic Cables – Structure, Specifications and Applications Fiber Optic Installations – Indoor and Outdoor Safety in Working with Optical Fibers

  • Thematic Cycle 3: Network Interconnection and Maintenance

Fiber Optic Termination – Connectors & Pigtails Fiber Optic Splicing (Fusion & Mechanical Splicing) Tools and Repair Techniques Network Connections and Interconnection Measurements – OTDR, Power Meter, Inspection Installation Testing and Certification

  • Thematic Cycle 4: Modern Technologies and Applications

Passive and Active Networks – GPON, FTTH

Fiber Optic Applications (telecommunications, IT, medical, military)

  • Thematic Cycle 5: Quality, Maintenance and Professional Development

Common Errors and Troubleshooting Certification and Job Market

Each educational unit includes:

  • Asynchronous online teaching via an e-learning platform, allowing the trainee to choose their personal study schedule to review the educational material,
  • Additional Training Material,
  • Assessment Activities.

At the end of the program, trainees receive a Certificate of Successful Attendance accompanied by a Transcript of Records and certification from an accredited certification body.

This specialty belongs to the Digital Technology certification scheme, which is accredited with the international standard ISO/IEC 17024:2012 by ESYD, the legally competent organization, which means that the certification process is conducted with impartiality and documented competence, while also making the certificate recognized and accepted as equivalent by the National Accreditation Bodies of the EA (European cooperation for Accreditation) member countries.
