Braille Writing and Reading System for the Blind<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The one-year seminar lasts 7.5 months (350 hours)<\/strong> and is delivered entirely remotely through asynchronous learning<\/strong>, with no compulsory attendance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Description<\/summary>\n

This training programme belongs to the field of Special Education and covers learning to write and read Braille, the system used by people with total or partial visual impairment. Its aim is to familiarise trainees with the way people with visual impairment write and read, and to give a deeper understanding of the communication, educational and social dimensions of the Braille system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the programme, trainees will learn about the history and development of writing for the blind, study the Greek and English Braille alphabets, and become familiar with the special symbols used in mathematics and music. The training includes both a theoretical and a practical part, with particular emphasis on developing Braille writing and reading skills through applied exercises and hands-on practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Training in the Braille system is particularly needed both by professionals in education, social care and health and by citizens who want to contribute actively to inclusion and social accessibility, for the following main reasons:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • Promoting equality and accessibility.<\/strong> Learning Braille helps remove the barriers faced by people with visual impairment, enabling them to take part equally in education, work and social life.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Vocational training and skills development. <\/strong>For professionals working in fields such as Education, Social work, Health care and Public services, knowledge of Braille is an important qualification. It allows better communication with and service to blind or partially sighted people.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Developing empathy and social awareness.<\/strong> Taking part in such a seminar increases understanding of the difficulties faced by people with disabilities and encourages a more inclusive society.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Strengthening the independence and participation of blind people.<\/strong> When more people know Braille, daily life becomes easier for people with visual impairment, e.g. through accessible signs, printed material or instructions for use.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Compliance with legal and institutional requirements.<\/strong> Knowledge of Braille may be necessary to apply legislation related to disability and accessibility (such as the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities).<\/li>\n\n\n\n

    In particular, the programme aims at complete learning of Braille writing. A seminar on accessibility & social inclusion, for professionals in education, health & care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      With the Training Certificate, the trainee receives, under current legislation:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        The training programme is for professionals and citizens who want to gain specialised knowledge and skills in writing and reading Braille, with the aim of promoting accessibility and the inclusion of people with visual impairment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        • Health professionals (nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists) who want to improve communication with and service to people with visual impairment<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Civil servants and local government staff involved in designing or providing services to citizens with disabilities<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • People working in cultural, tourism and educational organisations who want to help create accessible environments<\/li>\n\n\n\n
